The Town
Memaliaj in southern Albania is surrounded by a river named „Vjosa“.
It is a small industrial town established in 1946 to support the mining activity in the area. In 1990 the production of coal was around 500,000 tons per year. After the fall of communism and introduction of a free market economy the mine had to close down and the former important town fell into economic stagnation.
Unemployment is a big challenge and young people often move to the capital Tirana or neighbouring Greece hoping to find some work there.
The Church

Daniel lived here from 1995-2001 and founded the church there with a YWAM team. The town’s population was very open towards the foreigners. Now our dear friend Geni Dogani is leading the church called „Drita e botës“ (Light of the world).
The church is affected by the constant departure of its members. Even though it is a small church, many precious co-workers have come out of it, some working full time for the Lord, and a few have been actively involved in missions, in countries like France and Turkey.
New Dimensions in Memaliaj
New Dimensions in Memaliaj
It will be a challenge to live in this small town with its estimated 7000 inhabitants.
Even so we do believe that, in the future, many missionaries will be sent from Memaliaj to be light in this world.
